Director of Housing and Residence Life
The Director of
Housing and Residence Life is the chief housing officer and member of the
Divisional Planning Committee (DPC) for the Division of Student Affairs.
The Director reports directly to the Assistant Vice President for Student
Affairs. The Director assumes the primary responsibility for the overall
development and implementation of the residential program, policies, and
procedures for the department. The Director manages the department budget
and develops the HRL strategic plan to support the University mission.
Associate Director
The Associate Director reports to the Director of Housing and Residence Life. The Associate Director assists in the development and implementation of a broad range of goals and objectives, which facilitate the management of departmental programs. Responsibilities include departmental functions such as: recruitment, selection and training of all professional staff; coordination of educational and developmental programs; oversight of student judicial process for the department, and directs the facilities repair and furniture replacement plan. The Associate Director represents the department on various University committees.
Assistant Director for Training and Development
The Assistant Director reports to the
Associate Direct
or of Housing and Residence Life. The
Assistant Director coordinates the recruitment, selection, training, and in-services for para-professional
and professional staff. This position also oversees the professional staff in charge of the
Complex and Xavier Halls as well as budget for those halls. The AD also
serves on University and departmental committees, including developing and
implementing a program that addresses the needs of upper class students.
Assistant Director for First Year Experience
The Assistant Director for First Year Experience reports to the Associate Director of Housing and Residence Life. The AD for FYE coordinates the leadership, planning, and management of all aspects of the first year experience program halls - Aquinas and Boland. Major responsibilities include: professional staff development and supervision; coordinating programs and services to serve the first year residential student population; developing living-learning collaborations with faculty and staff through theme housing; managing the FYE budget; and playing a role in the department’s strategic planning efforts.
Residence Coordinator
The Residence Coordinator is a 10 month, full-time, live-in professional in Housing and Residence Life, who reports to an RHD. The RC’s primary role is to assist students in building an inclusive community where their social, spiritual, personal and academic growth is enhanced. Monitoring hall council and supervision of desk assistant staff, and academic teaming assistants are also central to the RC role. Responsibilities also include managing the hall environment through crisis intervention and student behavioral meetings. The RCs work together as a team to provide weekend programs for resident students.
Assistant Director for Housing Services
The Assistant Director for Housing Services reports to the Director of Housing and Residence Life. The Assistant Director for Housing Services assists in the development and implementation of housing assignments, room selection, and room change processes. The Assistant Director for Housing Services handles billing, maintenance of computer records, occupancy data and meal plan data.
Receptionist and Secretary

These two staff members serve as first contact for many students and visitors to the housing office. Both provide clerical support to the Director, Associate and Assistant Directors.
Residence Hall Director
The Residence Hall Director (RHD) position
is a full-time, live-in professional in Housing and Residence Life, who reports directly to an
Assistant Director of Housing and Residence Life.
The RHD’s primary role
is to assist students in building an inclusive community where their
social, spiritual, personal and academic growth is enhanced.
Responsibilities also include resident assistant supervision, managing the
hall environment through crisis intervention, student behavioral meetings,
roommate mediation, facilities management and other administrative
processes and procedures for the hall. The RHD is a valuable resource to
all resident students.
Residence Coordinator
The Residence Coordinator is a 10 month, full-time, live-in professional in Housing and Residence Life, who reports to an AD or RHD. The RC’s primary role is to assist students in building an inclusive community where their social, spiritual, personal and academic growth is enhanced. Monitoring hall council and supervision of desk assistant staff, and academic teaming assistants are also central to the RC role. Responsibilities also include managing the hall environment through crisis intervention and student behavioral meetings. The RCs work together as a team to provide weekend programs for resident students.
Resident Assistant
The Resident Assistant (RA) is a part-time paraprofessional
staff member of the Department of Housing and Residence Life wh
o
reports to a Residence Hall Director. S/he lives on a floor/wing of resident
students and assumes primary responsibility for responding to the personal
needs of these students, shaping an environment that supports the
Community Standards model as well as academic and personal development.
The RA also manages critical administrative tasks and duty hours to ensure
the safety, and working to uphold HRL’s Community Standards.
Tutor In Residence
The
Tutor In Residence (TIR) is a part-time paraprofessional staff member of
the Department of Housing and Residence Life who reports to the
Residence Coordinator of Boland Hall. S/he lives in a floor/wing
and assumes the primary responsibility of academic wellness on the floor
and in the building through upholding Community Standards and supporting
the RAs efforts. TIRs also provide in-hall tutoring to resident students
across campus through lounge hour availability, and facilitate academic
skills and programs.
Desk Assistants
The Desk Assistant (DA) is a part-time paraprofessional staff member of the department of Housing and Residence Life. He/She is primarily responsible for maintaining security within the hall while serving as a customer service representative for the department. The DA also addresses problems as they arise, performs various administrative tasks, and serves as a resource to students and guests.
Office Assistants
The Office Assistant (OA) is a part-time staff member of the department of Housing and Residence Life. He/She will assume an important role within the department responding to the needs of the Central and Senior staff in addition to those of students, parents, other departments, and guests of the University who contact the HRL Department.
