Community Living
At Home in our Halls -
Experience campus life where it happens. Living in the
residence halls at Seton Hall University is a way to make
connections – to other students, residence life staff, faculty, clubs,
hall governments, fraternities and sororities. As a campus resident your
community will consist of students and staff of different nationalities,
socioeconomic levels, races, religions and lifestyles. This is a great
learning experience, provided you are open and receptive to ideas that are
different from your own. You will learn to be part of a community that is
engaged in its intellectual, spiritual and social development.
Your responsibilities to the community:
-
Abide by all University policies and procedures.
-
Be involved in setting and refining community standards for your floor.
-
Create a positive and enjoyable living environment.
-
Resolve any problems that may arise in the community.
-
Respect other residents and the standards you helped create.
Roommates and Friends:
Living with another person can be challenging, rewarding and it is always a learning experience. As a resident student you will find there is always something happening in the halls. Whether it’s a study session in the Pirate’s Cellar, a game of pool, watching a movie, surfing the net, or just hanging out with friends your residence hall community has much to offer. Just remember in whatever you do that it’s important to share your opinions and ideas while you learn to listen and appreciate the ideas of others.
Floor/Wing Meetings: Your Resident Assistant (RA) will hold regular floor/wing meetings to provide information, discuss planned and potential programming, talk about community standards on the wing, etc. This is an excellent opportunity to participate in floor/wing activities. Information provided at the meetings is often vital: what to do to change rooms; how to check out at the end of the semester; how to evaluate your resident assistant; how to go through the room selection process.
