First Year
While acclimating to college life and
academic demands and schedules, students choose, validate or explore
choices of major study. Individual interests, values and skills should
be considered in the process and students may begin to match those
against career paths as well as study options.
At The Career Center, inventories of interests, values and preferred
styles of working and interacting are offered to students, and the
results used to inform career counseling sessions. Workshops offer
advice on researching academic programs and their career utility, as
well as the basics of resume writing, interviewing and networking.
Students may look for a summer job or internship and connect with alumni
mentors using The Center's online databases. Looking ahead to sophomore
year, career professionals will help guide students toward thinking
about experiential education opportunities in a field of interest.
