The STRONG INTEREST INVENTORY

What is it? The STRONG INTEREST INVENTORY® is a very reliable and valuable career-planning tool that measures one’s interests in a broad range of academic areas, occupational activities, and leisure activities. It is an essential resource for students exploring potential academic majors and career options or alumni considering a career change or seeking more satisfying work within an organization.

How does it work? Since the 1920s, this inventory continues to give people insights that help them identify career paths that fit their personality and are personally satisfying. It does this by compiling your interests and dislikes and comparing them to the interests and dislikes of hundreds of people who report that they enjoy their current careers/jobs. The report is based on the concept that if they like their career/jobs, and you share the same interests, you'll likely find similar work enjoyable.

How long does it take to complete? Approximately 35 – 40 minutes.

Getting Started. Usernames and Passwords can be found on My Web@SHU.   Simply click on the Community Tab, go to ‘Career Center Resources’ and then select ‘Career Assessments’ on the menu on the left hand side of the screen.  NOTE: Alumni should contact the Career Center for fee and password information.

To access, click here  STRONG INTEREST INVENTORY or click on the link while you’re in My Web@SHU.

There is no need to enter a User ID. This is configured for you upon completion of the Inventory (a User ID is only used when you need to return to the Inventory to resume taking it).

When Finished

When you complete the Inventory, click on the “Done” button. Your results and profile will be stored with The Career Center. After completing the online assessment, you will need to schedule an appointment with a Career Center professional who will provide you with a copy of your Strong Profile and assist you in understanding the results.
